General Review

“Early retirement buyouts are an interesting thing to consider.  I never really thought of myself as being of retirement age but I guess someone in the corporate office thought I fit that description.”

Those were Steve’s words during our first meeting.  We analyzed his 30 plus years of experience, only to identify that the last 10 years actually revealed a down ward trend of positions and compensation, which he had not previously recognized.

The next project was to determine, where did he best fit.  Virtually any public service, utility, or energy flow company would fit like a glove.  However, in a season of mergers, acquisitions, and shut downs this industry wasn’t showing signs of flourishing.

We tapped into the RLS database to identify a few spot opportunities with ‘private utilities companies’ moving to Indianapolis, following a legislative mandate for deregulation.  With identified decision makers, Steve began informational calls about times for start of operations and inquiries about the type of leadership they might be seeking.  At one point the person on the other end of the line said, “You’re asking all the right questions, do you mind if I ask you about your background?”  The rest is history.

“After being with the same company for over 25 years, I was very uncomfortable with the idea of interviewing.  And the thought of an informational interview or networking was definitely not in my vocabulary.  But RLS gave the tools, and the tools gave me the confidence, and the confidence got me the offer.”

Position acquired through informational interview and spot opportunities.
